The Sniglaband discography tells the story of a band constantly evolving while remaining true to its core identity. Since forming in Reykjavík in 1985, Sniglaband has been constantly exploring new musical ideas, refine its sound, and strengthen the connection with its growing audience. The story began in 1985 with the release Fjöllin falla í hauga, a two-track debut EP that introduced listeners to the foundations of the Sniglaband sound. Combining expressive vocals, melodic guitar work and no-mercy drumming, the EP established the musical identity that would later define the band's future releases. Songs such as 750 cc blues has remained a milestone in the band's repertoire.
A year later, Sniglabandið released Áfram veginn, a 4-song studio album featuring original songs.
The third album, Til hvers þarf maður konur, was exploring new soundscapes as the band reached new audiences and expanded its creative horizons.
In 1989, Sniglabandið went on a big tour to the Soviet Union. The tour was a great success, but it proved difficult for some members to return to normal life, hence there were some changes in personnel.
By 1992, the band had it‘s present day line-up. With new members came new musical ideas and the band evolved rapidly into becoming one of Iceland‘s most popular live acts, with weekly live shows on the National Radio, where people could call in and ask for their favorite song. The program became a huge hit and remained on the air intermittently until 2015. The band wrote a new song for every episode and many of those found their way to CDs.
As the band's catalog expanded, so did its audience and achievements. Each release captures a different stage of the Sniglaband journey. Together, these recordings form a cohesive body of work that continues to evolve with every new chapter.
